KNOW YOUR OPTIONS

Understanding Types of Senior Care

Every senior has unique needs. Here's a plain-language overview of the most common types of senior care to help you understand what may be the right fit for your loved one.

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide housing, meals, personal care, and support services for seniors who need help with daily activities but do not require around-the-clock medical care. Residents enjoy independence while having access to assistance when needed.

Memory Care

Memory care is specialized residential care designed for individuals with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other memory-related conditions. These communities offer secure environments, structured routines, and staff trained in dementia care.

Skilled Nursing Facilities

Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) provide 24-hour medical care and rehabilitation services for seniors recovering from surgery, illness, or injury, or those with complex medical needs that require ongoing professional attention.

Independent Living

Independent living communities are designed for active, self-sufficient seniors who want a maintenance-free lifestyle with social opportunities, amenities, and the convenience of on-site services — without the need for personal care assistance.

Companion Care

Companion care provides non-medical in-home support including companionship, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and transportation. It helps seniors remain safely at home while reducing isolation and supporting daily routines.

Respite Care

Respite care offers temporary relief for primary caregivers by providing short-term care for their loved one. It can be provided in-home, at an adult day program, or in a residential facility, giving caregivers time to rest and recharge.

Hospice & Palliative Care

Hospice care focuses on comfort and quality of life for individuals with a terminal illness, while palliative care provides relief from symptoms and stress at any stage of a serious illness. Both prioritize dignity, comfort, and family support.

  • What activities and social programs are offered?
  • Are meals included, and can dietary needs be accommodated?
  • What is the process for increasing care levels as needs change?
  • What are the costs and what is included in the base fee?

  • How does the community communicate with families?

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does your service cost?

Our service is completely free for families. We are compensated by the care communities and providers in our network when a placement is made — similar to how a real estate agent works. You receive expert guidance at no cost to you.

How do I know your recommendations are unbiased?

We only recommend communities and providers that we personally know and trust. Our goal is always to find the best fit for your loved one's specific needs, budget, and preferences — not to steer you toward any particular facility.

How long does the placement process take?

The timeline varies depending on your situation. Some families need to move quickly due to a hospital discharge or sudden change in condition — in those cases we can often identify options within 24–48 hours. Others prefer to take their time, and we are happy to work at your pace.

What if my loved one's needs change after placement?

We stay involved after move-in. If your loved one's care needs change or the placement is not the right fit, we will work with you to find a better solution. Our support does not end on move-in day.

Do you only serve Maryland families?

Our primary service area is Maryland, where Melanie and Dixie have deep local knowledge and established relationships with trusted care providers. Contact us and we will let you know how we can best assist your family.

What information should I have ready when I call?

It helps to have a general sense of your loved one's care needs, current living situation, budget range, and preferred location. But don't worry if you're not sure — we will walk you through everything together on our first call.
